The "rights-of-way" exist over every street. Ideally the Shuttle will be
installed on the curb lanes of at least a 4 lane street (see diagram). Only vehicles that
cannot park in multi-tiered parking lots (clearance 6-8") are excluded from
using the lane occupied by the CITY SHUTTLE.
No Massive "Rail" Overhead permanent structures
- Instead:
24” high x 18” wide x 4” thick, inexpensive pre-cast concrete channel
Guideways (Jersey Barriers w/ center groove) at street level. Movable for
rapid route changes. Sides available to steer CITY
SHUTTLE mechanically.
The “Guideways” stop before street intersections and the
CITY SHUTTLE runs directly on the pavement under
operator control to permit cross-traffic (see diagram). At intersections where the traffic
is under control of stop lights, SHUTTLE will have a “bus light” to permit
the SHUTTLE to cross the intersections or turn either right or left without
other traffic in the intersection.
No "Inadaquate" curbside shelters - Instead:
Convenient passenger stations elevated 8’ over existing sidewalks. They
provide level entrance to SHUTTLE and ample “pre-pay” station areas. No limit
to Size -can be extended to include adjacent business or building entrances
across sidewalks etc.
No Traffic Jams - Instead:
The CITY SHUTTLE flows over traffic. This
shuttle
will have signs or lights and perhaps a mechanical bar lowered under the
front and rear to exclude vehicles from underneath when turning at cross
streets. "Bus stop lights" will exclude other traffic when the Shuttles enter
the intersections.
The CITY SHUTTLE has 4-wheel steering to permit
the wheels to follow the “guideways”. This 4-wheel steer will be used to
“crab” the vehicle against the station platform to form a close, level and
tight seal.
